The client – a large biomanufacturing company - is committed to improving the lives of patients. This tenet guides every aspect of their manufacturing operations. They take the responsibility of making and delivering quality medicine very seriously. While cell to drug production is one of the most important procedures taking place in the biological manufacturing facility, as training content, it could come across as overwhelming and uninteresting. The client expected a well-structured and engaging gamified learning experience that included elements like challenges, rewards, progressive levels, and would be tailored to the requirements of the content and audience.
To meet these objectives, Constellar Consulting proposed a gamified training in which the whole cell to drug production process would be divided across 19 modules, which would be further grouped across o 6 levels. The modules were designed to be heavy on learning activities and videos to enable wholesome learning engagement. Each module began with a learning map for both the learning program and that individual module. This helped the learners to trace their progress across their learning journey.
For each level, learners were able to take an insider look at the area in which the activities for that level took place. Learning agents – humanized versions of cell, gene, bioreactor, centrifuge, filter and drug - appeared in each of the six levels. They were termed as learning buddies considering that they provided constant guidance and support to help learners traverse through their learning journey.
The learning buddies needed to be provided with a steady supply of energy points to maintain their energy levels. Learners were to complete assessments - called proficiency checkpoints - at the end of each module to add to the energy levels of the learning buddies. Clearing a proficiency checkpoint was also required to access the next module in the series.
The training modules proved to be a resounding success. Learners enthusiastically embraced the interactive elements, leading to higher engagement levels and retention of training material. The incorporation of game mechanics, learning buddies, exploratory videos and activities transformed the learning experience into an enjoyable challenge. This not only motivated participants to complete the training, but also fostered a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie among them. Overall, the gamified training effectively converted routine content into an exciting and effective learning journey, boosting knowledge acquisition and participant satisfaction.
